Paul R. Heins, age 91, of Ames, died March 12, 2022, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. A gathering of friends and family will be 4-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa with a 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, graveside service at Gilbert Cemetery, Gilbert, Iowa

Paul was born on September 23, 1930, in Hampton, Iowa the son of Ernest and Louise (Kruse) Heins. Paul grew up near Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School. He enlisted into the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On November 25, 1962, he married Lois Turner in Mackey. The couple resided in Ames. In earlier years, he was a member of the Mackey United Methodist Church. He presently was a member of the Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames. Paul spent his whole working career at Northwestern Bell. In his spare time, you could find him flying radio planes, at an Iowa State University sporting event or behind a lens of a camera. He loved visiting and spending time with family and friends.

Paul is survived a son, Paul "Stacy" Heins and wife, Sonia of Gilbert; two daughters, Lori McDonald and husband, Steve of Nevada, and Barbara Meiners of Ames; five grandchildren, Tyler (Courtney) McDonald, Wyatt Heins, Walker Heins, Alex Meiners, and Trevor Meiners.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois in 2007, and three brothers, Henry, Donald, and Lee.
