"R.I.P. Gordon. We were classmates all the way through Huxley and Ballard, and we would occasionally run into each other in Iowa City. He was one of the most talented musicians I have known. "
Gordon Steel finished over 80 trips around the sun on March 12, 2022, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Gordon was born on September 10, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents Henry and Sara (Legvold) Steel. He grew up in Huxley and graduated with the first class of Ballard High School in 1959. He attended Iowa University, finishing with a Masters Degree in music specializing in classical piano. Most of his adult life was spent in his favorite city of New York, where he held various jobs involving music and others that didn't, making many friends along the way. His last two years were at Ballard Creek Assisted Living in Huxley, when his health was failing him. He is survived by his brother, Steve Steel.
