John H. Cavins
July 7, 1935 - March 26, 2022

John H. Cavins passed away peacefully from interstitial lung disease at the age of 86 on March 26, 2022 in Sarasota, Florida. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years Wanda Cavins of Sarasota, FL, his son John (Cindy) of Denver, CO, his daughter Kristin (Brian) of Sarasota, FL and his grandson Roan Cavins Lunte of Sarasota, FL.

Born on July 7, 1935 in Fairborn Ohio, son of the late John L. and Mary Gibson Cavins.

John was a graduate of Fairborn High School and Bowling Green State University where he earned a BA in Business Administration. His career began as a statistician at Rike's Department Store, now a division of Federated Department Stores in Dayton, Ohio from 1957 to 1975. John relocated with his family in 1975 to Des Moines, IA where he became the Financial Vice President and Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Younker's Department Stores with divisions in five states. In 1985 he joined consulting company Robert Beck and Associates in Chicago as a partner and subsequently started his own auditing company. He had major clients overseas and greatly enjoyed his time working in Europe. John and Wanda retired to Siesta Key, FL making lifelong friends.

John was an avid golfer and member of Wakonda Country Club in Des Moines, IA where he loved playing golf with his cherished friends of many years. He was a sports enthusiast, voracious reader and joy to be around. Everyone who met John instantly gravitated toward him as he was one of the most charismatic and entertaining individuals in our lives.

He loved his family and adored his grandson Roan. John will be remembered as a kind and gentle man with endless patience, endearing humor and zest for life. Always ready to help anyone he could.

A beloved husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
