Ernest "Ernie" Anderson
January 17, 1928 - April 7, 2022



Ernest "Ernie" Anderson, 94, of Madrid passed away on April 7, 2022, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa 50010. Burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery in rural Madrid, Iowa.

Ernie was born on January 17, 1928, in Nevada, Iowa to Richard and Anna (Anderson) Anderson. He would go on to graduate from Milford School in Nevada. Following his primary education, Ernie joined the Army an served in Korea as a welder and Sergeant in the 545th Ordnance Division.

He returned to Iowa where he met the love of his life, Kathryn "Katy" Jensen, and they were married on August 29th, 1954. Together, the two of them set up a home on a farmstead near McCallsburg, Iowa, where they raised their three children.

Eventually, farming gave way to a new adventure where they sold everything and packed up their family to head to California. They settled in Huntington Beach, California, where Ernie became a machinist where he later became a plant manager at a dental equipment company. They then began another adventure and opened their own custom invitation shop in Newport Beach, California.

They retired at Lake Nacimiento in Paso Robles, California, enjoying a wonderful life of woods, hills, and wildlife. After a traumatic earthquake occurred at their home, they were ready to head to beloved state of Iowa and retire in Madrid. They enjoyed the comfort of being close to many friends and relatives. Ernie was also a lifelong member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge and the Lions Club.

Ernie is survived his two sons, Stanley Anderson, and Bruce Anderson; daughter, Bonnie (Dwayne) Baker; four grandchildren, Gawain Anderson, Holly (Adam) Ring, Erik (Whitney) Baker and Lindsey Baker; great-granddaughter, Payton Ring; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Katy, his parents, and his daughter-in-law, Angelee Anderson and his sister, Julia (Anderson) Phillips.
