ATLAS (DENNIS C.) SWINFORD
MUSCATINE, Iowa - Atlas 'Dennis' Swinford, 72, of Muscatine, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Sharon Phillips will officiate. Burial will take place in Island Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Terrill, Jerry Beeding, Randy Austin, Dean Schnedler, Russel Shields, and Dennis Witte. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Curtis and Kurtis McCauley.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Karen Swinford, in Atlas's honor. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Atlas was born on January 26, 1950, in Muscatine, the son of Clarence and Pauline Begley Swinford. He married Karen Lamoreux on August 8, 1992, in Muscatine.

Atlas graduated from Muscatine High School in 1968. He retired from Muscatine Power and Water after 30 years, where he worked in environmental control. Atlas was the owner and operator of House of Atlas Motorcycle Shop. He loved building, restoring, and working on motorcycles and classic cars. Atlas was a member of the motorcycle group, Irons. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, taking many trips. His favorite places to go were Mexico and Texas. Atlas enjoyed junking, going to estate sales and swap meets, watching Star Trek, western movies, and Svengoolie, and going on golf cart adventures. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. Atlas's favorite thing to do was dance with his wife.

Atlas is survived by his wife, Karen Swinford; children, Carla Byrd (Mark), Virginia Boyer (Marty), Ranae Fenner (Mike), Kelly Maher (Wolf), Felicia Keck (Dennis), Dave Swinford (Justine), Will Maher (Skye), and Jocelyn McFate (Dan); 23 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
