Orinda Jayne Sherman
November 1, 1935 - May 10, 2022
Orinda J. Sherman passed away peacefully on May 10th, 2022. Ms. Sherman was the daughter of the late Marion Fowler Sherman and Henry Sherman. Orinda retired from the Bank of Newport after over thirty years of service. Orinda was also a lifelong parishioner of the St. Mary's Episcopal Church. She was a member of the church choir and had a beautiful operatic singing voice. She was a Portsmouth/Aquidneck Island history buff, avid Red Sox fan, and loved to garden. Orinda was proud of her heritage, descending from Phillip Shearman one of the founders of the Portsmouth Compact. She was also the sister of the late Gardiner L. Sherman. Ms. Sherman is survived by her nieces Norie Sherman and Leslie Costa, great nieces Sydney King, Olivia and Abby Costa, great nephew Nathanial King, spouses Russell Costa and Kirsten King and her sister-in-law Jean Sullivan Sherman. Calling hours are omitted. A service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI on Friday June 10th at 11am.
