Lissa Kantor Streusand
December 25, 1921 - June 24, 2022
Lissa Kantor Streusand was born December 25, 1921 in Wolkowysk, Poland. She grew up in a large and loving family along with her many girlhood friends. With war looming in Europe, Lissa and her immediate family boarded the last boat out of Poland and arrived in America in August 1939. They immediately settled in Houston where they joined extended family.
Once settled in Houston, Lissa met Fred Streusand, an immigrant from Austria. They married in 1945 and had three children, Charlotte, Stan (of blessed memory), and David. In 1962, Fred died unexpectedly, leaving Lissa to raise their three children. Lissa worked hard to make sure her family thrived despite challenging circumstances. Even after losing her husband, her son, beloved friends and family in the Holocaust, and her dear sisters, Lissa maintained a positive attitude throughout her 100 years. One of her favorite sayings was "G-d has been good to me."
Lissa loved to write, whether it was letters to the editor of the Jewish Herald or stories about her life in Poland. She was passionate about Israel and the importance of its continued strength. In her later years, Lissa reveled in her 12 great grandchildren who she called her 'diamonds'.
Lissa was predeceased by her parents, son Stan, and younger siblings Louis Kantor, Howard Kantor, Rita Bernstein, and Annette Bernstein. She is survived by Charlotte and Floyd Goldberg, David and Risa Streusand, and Stan's wife Shelley Streusand; grandchildren Steven and Felicia Goldberg, Michael and Louise Goldberg, Evan and Jackie Streusand, Abby Streusand and Gabriel Greenberg, Jenna and Elan Kahalnik, Jamie Streusand and Greg Gitlin, Adam Streusand, and Ryan and Debra Streusand; and 12 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 4:00 PM in the Sophia and Jack Bender Memorial Chapel at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 1037 N. Post Oak Rd. Minyans will be held at the home of David and Risa Streusand, on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evening at 7:00PM.
