In loving memory of

Michael Jon Wiley
August 22, 1944 - June 29, 2022

Michael Jon Wiley, of Antigo, died Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 77 years old. He was born on August 22, 1944, in Sac City, Iowa, a son of Marvin and Ethel (Gerken) Wiley.

Mike served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman from 1962 to 1965, stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base in North Chicago, Ill. He continued in the Navy Reserves until 1968.

On June 1, 1969, he married Barbara Niederberger. She survives.

They resided in Roselle, Ill and then moved to Elmhurst, Ill, where Mike joined the Yorkfield Fire Department in 1974 and served as a volunteer firefighter, and eventually Fire Chief until his retirement in 1987.

Mike worked most of his life in the Corrugated Box industry, making many lifelong friendships.

Mike and Barb resided in Elmhurst, Ill until 1997, when they relocated to West Chicago, Ill, until 2016.

In 2016, Mike and Barb finally relocated to Antigo, Wisconsin, where he could pursue his favorite hobbies full time. He loved to fish, target shoot, reload ammunition and spend hours on his Ham Radios. He became a member of the Woodpecker Ham Radio Club. Mike joined the Sparks-Doernenburg American Legion, Post #3, and was a very active member serving as Vice Commander then Post Adjutant as well as Honor Guard. Mike was also a member of the 40 et 8 Voiture 1204. He participated in the Never Forgotten Honor Flight Mission #38 on October 21, 2019 escorted by his best friend of 40+ years (and favorite fishing buddy) Steven Sturtevant. It was definitely the trip of a lifetime.

In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by a daughter; Carrie (Gary Kluwe) of Antigo; three grandchildren, Kaeden, Trevor, and Amelia; two brothers, Dennis (Merry Echo) Wiley of Des Moines, Iowa and Alan (Beth) Wiley of Prior Lake, Minn; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved Cocker Spaniels; Louie, Elliot, and Zuli.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Ethel Wiley; a sister; Carol Baird; and brother-in-law, Neil Baird.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Spaks-Doernenburg American Legion. Military honors will take place at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial in Mike's name to Sparks-Doernenburg American Legion Post 3, P.O. Box 294, Antigo, WI 54409-0294.

The family would like to thank the Aspirus Hospice team for their care and compassion.
