Teruko Sandvick, 95, of Ames, Iowa passed away on July 13, 2022. A private family funeral service was held at Roland Cemetery in Roland, Iowa.
Teruko Yoshizumi was born on February 16, 1927, in Tokyo, Japan, the daughter of Shinzo and Kameyo Yoshizumi. She spent her early years in Japan and wed Robert Sandvick on June 9, 1946, in Japan and on June 17, 1946, at the United States Embassy in Japan. There are so many stories of how Robert and Teruko met during WWII, how they lived in Japan post wartime and how they moved here in 1952 and raised their family. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and baking. She mastered both Norwegian and Japanese cuisine.
Teruko and Robert were blessed with four children Arlene, Audrey, Al and Arnie. The couple lived in the Ames area. She loved when her children and their families came to visit.
Teruko's memory will be cherished by her children and families, Arlene (Kelly) Zerr, Audrey (Steven) Crawford, Al (Norma) Sandvick grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Sandvick, on November 6, 1988, a son Arnie Marvin Sandvick, September 23, 2017, and a great granddaughter Monica Huber Lindsey on December 19, 2011.
