Mary Gagas
September 25, 1930 - July 23, 2022

Mary Gagas, of Milwaukee, died Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. She was 91 years old. She was born on September 25, 1930, in Antigo, a daughter of Frank and Anna (Hessil) Novotny. She married Clifford Gagas on September 29, 1951, in Stevens Point. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2005.

She was a graduate of Antigo High School.

After graduating high school, Mary moved to Milwaukee for work. She worked at Singer Controls (Eaton) as an assembler. In 1957, Mary and her husband bought property on Indian Lake in Deerbrook and built their cottage. Mary continued to spend her time at the cottage from spring to fall until the time of her passing.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Milwaukee.

Mary enjoyed gardening, making crafts, and playing card games like Cribbage and Sheepshead. She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her pies, from apple pie to lemon meringue. Mary had a love for her pets.

Survivors include two sons, John (Arlene) Gagas of Milwaukee and Donald (Kathleen) Gagas of Brookfield; two daughters, Carol (Kurt) Monzingo of Menomonee Falls and Joann (Mark) Stephan of Richfield; 9 grandchildren, Michele, Clifford, Laura, Lisa, Elizabeth, Sarah, Megan, Matthew, and Karen; and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Smith of Deerbrook and Phyllis (Leon) Mosher of Gleason; and a sister-in-law, Sue Novotny of Amherst.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Joseph Novotny; grandson, Andrew Stephan; and a brother-in-law, David Smith.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 12 p.m. at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church with Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Bradley Funeral Home. Entombment will take place in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Milwaukee on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a Humane Society of your choosing or plant a tree in honor of Mary.
