JOHN E. GALEWSKI
Sacramento, California - John E. Galewski, 81, formerly of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Mercy San Juan Medical Center.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, at the SS. Mary Mathias Catholic Church in Muscatine. The Reverend Chris Weber will be officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Lane Hansen, John Favourite, Matt Hollingsworth, Robbie Rock, Chad Vaughn and Alex Vaughn. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

John was born on October 26, 1940, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Edwin and Grace (Magray) Galewski. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Schmitt, on June 12, 1958 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Milwaukee WI.

He was a civil engineer and worked for Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Sacramento, CA, Charles T. Main, Portland, OR, Stanley Consultants, Muscatine, IA and Commonwealth Associates, Jackson MI. John was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

John enjoyed exploring the Pacific Northwest and the California Coast with his family, especially the giant sequoias and redwood trees. He said the Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park was his favorite place on earth. He loved baroque music and peanut butter cookies.

John is survived by his children Susan (Lane) Hansen, Kathleen (Matthew) Hollingsworth, Peter Galewski, Barbara (Chad) Vaughn; grandchildren, Nicole (Robert) Rock, John (Lisa) Favourite, Elizabeth (Jeremiah) Burke, Alexander Vaughn, Chelsie (Gabriel) Lincoln, Chloe (Matthew) Tyrrell; great grandchildren; Tyler, Lyvia, Huxley, Lola, William, Hank, Lucy and Liam; siblings; Mary (Mary Fisher) Magray; significant other, Margarita Sheremeteff; sister in law; Sheri Galewski; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen; parents; siblings; Bernadine Galewski, sister and Stephen Galewski, brother.
