Lester (Bud) Pollock
Bud was born to Lester and Dolly in their Pine River home on January 6th, 1932. They moved to a farm nine miles from town when Bud was about 3 (some of the farm is still in the family). Bud had five siblings to grow up with on a farm where they had chores to do - but still had time for fun; like playing king on the mountain (the mountain was a haystack and the king was their pet goat). Bud's favorite pet was his dog, Sport. Bud and Sport loved to go bird hunting - Sport would chase them up out of the tall grass and Bud would shoot them. Bud hunted from the time he could carry a gun safely (had to be big enough to get it up to his shoulder). Bud's uncle, Dave, was his hunting buddy when Bud was old enough for deer hunting - that's what he and Dave lived for. If they weren't hunting, they worked on old cars, so he learned very much about mechanics at a young age. Bud worked on the farm - helped his dad build a very large barn (which was struck by lightning some 30 years later and burned), worked moving houses and worked in wood logging. In January of 1951, Bud joined the Army and was in Korea for 1 year, being on the front line for 9 months. On one of his leaves, he met Naomi and had a long-distance romance. Bud was honorably discharged in January 1954. Bud and Naomi married on June 26th, 1954. Allen was born in 1955 and Timothy was born a few years later. Bud, Naomi, and their sons moved to their new home in Fridley in February of 1960 from Minneapolis. Bud went to welding school and had many different jobs during this time until he was hired at Gardner's Hardware as a welder, which he retired from in 2005. Together, they raised their boys in Fridley, Allen went into the Air Force, then the Navy, where he served until, he retired. Tim was a chiropractor for 20 years and passed in 2005. Tim gave Bud two grandchildren, Bryan and Marisa. Bud loved being a father and grandfather, with the grandfather role being easier having more time for fun. Bud and Naomi sold the Fridley home in 2006 and moved to St. Francis, out in the country. Bud had a pole barn built and spent many hours down their working on his car, truck, tractor, or whatever needed to be done. He also did woodworking during the winter. Bud loved it out there. Bud was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. Bud read one book daily, the Bible, trusting in his Lord and Savior in his daily walk to be the best he could be. Bud enjoyed his last years out of the city doing things he loved. A memorial service will be on Saturday, August 13th, 2022 at 11:00 am at Fridley Covenant Church. A light lunch will be served at the church after the ceremony.
