Eugene Grimes
April 13, 1940 - August 17, 2022

Eugene William Grimes, 82, of Woodward, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Madrid Public Library. A private family burial will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Madrid.

Eugene was born on April 13, 1940, to William and Iva Mae (Kinne) Grimes in Woodward, Iowa. He grew up in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School in 1958. After high school, he joined the National Guard and worked various jobs. Eugene married Judy Pies at the Methodist Church in Woodward, Iowa on January 25, 1969. In 1970, Eugene began working at Bridgestone/Firestone in Des Moines. In 1995, after 25 years of service he retired. Eugene was a member of the Rubber Workers Union. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching western movies and TV shows, collecting and saving anything that was a deal, enjoyed car shopping, reminiscing about his 1958 Mercury Convertible, and telling funny stories.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Judy Grimes of Madrid, Iowa; sons Doug Grimes of Des Moines, IA and Mike (Becky) Grimes of Baxter, IA; grandchildren Sara Grimes and Matthew Grimes of Baxter, IA; and sister Donna VanLew of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by parents, sister Dorothy Rothfus, and brother Wilbur Grimes.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care in Baxter has been entrusted with the care of Eugene and his family.
