Kathleen "Kay" Gogerty
January 27, 1927 - September 15, 2022

Kathleen "Kay" O'Brien Gogerty, 95, of Rural Hubbard, passed away peacefully and surrounded
by her loving family on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at her home. She donated her body to
the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program for medical research. A memorial visitation will be
held at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
with a Rosary Service to begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday,
September 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m with Father Dagit and Father McDermott officiating. A
luncheon will follow at the Dakins Community Center in Zearing, Iowa. A private family burial
will take place at a later date in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.

Kathleen O'Brien Gogerty was born January 27, 1927, in rural Peosta, Iowa, to Grace (Callahan)
and Earl O'Brien. She was baptized at Holy Family Church near New Melleray Abbey. She
received her education at one-room country schools, St. Columbkille's High School, and Mercy
School of Nursing near Dubuque, Iowa. On June 13, 1949, she married Rex Gogerty and moved
to the Gogerty farm near Hubbard, Iowa. Five children were born to this union.

Kathleen devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, her church, her friends, and her
community. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and was a member of St.
Gabriel's Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and their choir. Kathleen enjoyed being
the NESCO school nurse for a number of years. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and legendary
baker of bread and cinnamon rolls. She also loved dancing, playing euchre, jigsaw puzzles, and
traveling including a trip to her heritage homeland of Ireland. Truly a wonderful wife and
mother that will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years Rex Gogerty; children Dan (Lana) Gogerty,
Tom (Robin) Gogerty, Kevin (Karen) Gogerty, Mary (Doug) Phillips, and Ann (Kaya Tolon)
Gogerty; 8 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters Lois Schlegel and Deb (Bob) Green;
brothers Joe O'Brien, Mike (Joyce) O'Brien, and Terry O'Brien; sisters-in-law Maurna O'Brien and
Nikki Manternach; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Earl (Elaine) O'Brien, Ralph (Mary Ann)
O'Brien, George O'Brien, Pat (Ann) O'Brien, and Steve O'Brien; sister Joannel (Irwin) McDermott;
sisters-in-law Delores O'Brien and Monie O'Brien; brothers-in-law Pat (Ruth) Gogerty and Rich
Schlegel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions of Masses and for various
missions.

Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing, has been entrusted with the care of Kathleen and her
family.
