In loving memory of

Marjorie E. Whiteley
December 11, 1946 - November 15, 2022

Marge was born in Detroit on Dec 11, 1946 shortly after her father returned from WWII. She was the second of seven siblings in the Hoban family. She grew up with the love of family, which was always first in her mind. After graduating high school from St. Martin, Marge went on to earn her RN degree and began working at Jennings Hospital in Detroit. It was there that she met the love of her life, Robert HK Whiteley. They lived happily together for 42 years, adopting two children who became the focus of their lives, Heather and Bobby.

In 1971, Marge earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Wayne State, and spent over 30 years compassionately nursing at Bon Secours Hospital, now Beaumont Grosse Pointe. She took great pride in her nursing career, and was often recognized by patients as the most caring and thoughtful nurse.

Her greatest joy however, was her love of family. She was absolutely over the moon when her two children married wonderful people, bringing her three grandchildren. Marge loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and siblings. She is known by all for her kindness, positive attitude and for resolutely thinking the best of everyone. She demonstrated her great love for her family and friends by thoughtfully creating ways to connect with and care for them. She delighted in staying in touch with lifelong friends from St. Martin, Bon Secours, Turners Athletic Club, and also her new friends at her senior living community. For decades she hosted a vibrant Christmas Eve party, which was the highlight of her year. Her affectionate, daily, "just checking in" phone calls and meaningful Hallmark cards on special occasions will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her loving children, Heather Strefling (Jonathon) and Bobby Whiteley (Maggie); her dearest grandchildren, Naomi, Zoe, and Jackson Strefling; and her dear siblings, James Hoban (Gene), Nancy Hoban, Charles Hoban (Patricia), Daniel Hoban (Jean Schneider), Dr. Donna Hoban, and Robert Hoban (Judy). She is also survived by her many loving nieces, nephews, remaining family, and friends.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 19th, from 4-7pm at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 20th; Instate 1:15pm until the time of Mass 2:00pm at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake St., St. Clair Shores.

"I also knew Majorie when she was a girl in St. Martin School. I am so moved by this summation of her beautiful, giving life, her professional dedication and the joy of her marriage and motherhood. For certain on Monday when she met her living God face-to-face she heard: ?Well done, good and faithful servant;?Enter into the joy of your lord? (Matthew 25:21). "
