Constance Jean Hubatch
May 17, 1936 - November 26, 2022

Constance Jean Hubatch, of Post Lake, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 26, 2022, at her home. She was 86 years old. She was born on May 17, 1936, in Janesville, a daughter of the late Dr. Lawrence Bruxer and Grace (Corts) Bruxer. She married James Edward Hubatch on February 15, 1958, at St Mary Catholic Church in Antigo.

Connie attended 1st Ward School in Antigo, then St. John's Catholic Grade School, and was a graduate of Antigo High School, class of 1954. In 1957, she graduated from St. Mary School of Nursing in Wausau. She received her Bachelors of Science and Nursing at Mount Senario College in Ladysmith.

She began work as a Registered Nurse in 1957 at Langlade County Memorial Hospital as staff RN on the obstetrical floor for 19 years. She was then transferred to OB Supervisor, Med-Surg Staff RN, House Supervisor, and then Med-Surg nurse manager until her retirement in 1998.

Connie was a 4-H Leader for the Wislango Riders for 25 years. She was a member of the Elcho Historical Society and Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho. She researched and collected information for a book that she published on Margarets Studio.

She started playing the flute in 5th grade and was one of the original members of the Centennial Band, now known as the Antigo Area Community Band.

She enjoyed knitting, genealogy, pontooning, traveling, beading, and a full house hosting friends and family at Post Lake. She was known for making her family feel special, whether it was with a Christmas ornament, "funny money", or being front and center at all extracurricular events for her grandchildren, cheering them on.

In addition to her husband she is survived by three children, Kathleen (Jim) Hubatch-Babcock of Rhinelander, David (Pam) Hubatch of Deerbrook, and Karen Steinmetz of Rhinelander; eight grandchildren, Shannon (Jacob) Nelson, Nick Hubatch, Andrew Babcock, Amy (Jarrod) Decker, Katarina Kolpack, Emily Babcock, Sarah Babcock, Logan Kolpack; six great-grandchildren, Bentley Frahm, Henry Nelson, Parker Babcock, Ava Nelson, Nora Nelson, Huxley Decker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Heather Ann and Ashley Marie Hubatch, and son-in-law, Alan Steinmetz.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho with Rev. Arul Kennedy Gaspar officiating. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Antigo.
