In loving memory of

Jeffrey Hetzler
September 22, 1947 - November 29, 2022

Jeffrey Hetzler, of Ames, Iowa, passed away on November 29, 2022. A public visitation will be held on December 9, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way Ames, Iowa 50010.

Jeff was born on September 22, 1947, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Harland and Lenore (Mumm) Hetzler. He attended Monticello High School and graduated with the class of 1965. After his primary education he attended ISU and worked in the construction industry. In 1977, he and Mick Rhodes started Hetzler and Rhodes Concrete. Jeff retired in 2021. Those years were full of hard work and dedication to the building community. He was a longtime member of both The Elks BPOE and The Ames Home Builders Association.

Jeff was an avid ISU fan, had a vast knowledge of history, enjoyed boating, skiing and traveling to relax by the ocean. He may be remembered by some as "a grumpy old man with a smile" but those who knew Jeff saw his kind and fun-loving spirit. Jeff had many loves in life including his four-legged companion Hessel. He always enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and colleagues.

Left to cherish Jeff's memory are Julie Carroll, his loving partner; siblings, Joel Hetzler, Jane Chukus, and John Hetzler along with their families, and Julie's grandchildren, Claire and Owen.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, Harland and Lenore Hetzler.

"My condolences to Jeff's siblings and Julie. Jeff was a great class-mate and friend at Monticello. He knew how to enjoy life; whether it was playing football, or singing in choir. Never a troublemaker, but was fun to be around. I learned how to be a bit more "light-hearted" about life by being a high school friend of Jeff. Many memories of all of his family. What great singers ! And, Lenore was always welcoming to his friends. My thoughts are with you. Paul Specht"
