Dr. Mary Ann Sara
September 19, 1944 - November 23, 2022

Dr. Mary Ann Sara, 78, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on November 23, 2022, in her home and amongst her children.

Mary Ann was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to John Edward Kane and Mary Alyce (Graves) Kane on September 19, 1944. Mary Ann graduated from Big Rapids High School, loved being a student and went on to earn her Doctorate in Gifted Education from Wayne State University. She was a public-school teacher in Royal Oak for 39 years, a part time professor at Wayne State University and took a sabbatical at age 50 to teach English in Tarsus, Turkey.

Mary Ann enjoyed music, the arts, traveling and learning and spent many holidays baking and decorating. Mary Ann's creativity seeped into every aspect of her life and made her an especially interesting person to have the privilege of knowing.

Mary Ann also volunteered her time to many causes and was active with Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity of Wayne State University.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Mary Jo Moore (Brian), James Alexander Sara (Sandy) and Julie Anna Briton (Warren), her grandchildren, Corey Allen Sara, Jacob Michael Baize, Alexander Arthur Briton and was preceded in death by Jason Patrick Baize. Mary Ann had 7 nieces and nephews and many cousins and
friends. She is preceded in death by her father (John Kane), her mother (Mary Alyce Graves-Kane-Franklin) and her dear brother (John "Johnny" Kane II.)

A Celebration of Mary Ann's incredible and diverse life is planned for Spring, 2023 in Michigan with details to be announced. At that time, Mary Ann's ashes will be lovingly scattered at Duck Lake in Muskegon, Michigan, a place dear to her.
