In loving memory of

Marilyn Louise Uhrig
October 17, 1929 - January 29, 2023

Marilyn L. Uhrig, age 93, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, with her children at her side. She was born in Madison, WI on October 17, 1929, the daughter of Howard and Elda Meiller. Marilyn married Arley Uhrig on April 9, 1955, at the First Unitarian Church in Madison, WI and they were married for 67 years.

Marilyn graduated from University of Wisconsin, Madison with a BS in Criminology. She married a guy that would answer her questions when the professors wouldn't. Sometimes the answer was much longer than she expected. She wanted to be a mom more than anything and raising her kids was the best part of her life. She was a stay-at-home mom and loved it, as she was able to sew clothes for her children, make fun birthday cakes, and cook family dinners that everyone was expected to be at. She raised her kids to be independent thinkers, explore on their own - which included: making an ice rink, camping in the backyard, gardening, making igloos, making a minibike, and building a tree fort without parental assistance.

For vacations, we traveled as a family by private plane to Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone Park, Washington DC, Montreal, Quebec and to Dodgeville for the children's birthday dinner.

When Arley retired, they continued to travel across the country, but now with an RV. Some of their favorite trips were Gettysburg and other the Civil War battlefields, New Orleans for music at Preservation Hall and eating beignets, New York city for a Broadway show, taking a leisurely boat ride down the Erie Canal, following the Oregon Trail, or just out on the ocean for whale watching.

Marilyn used her creativity, decorating cakes, sewing clothes, building bird houses, making Christmas/birthday/holiday cards, creating wood ornamentation and holiday decorations.

Marilyn is lovingly survived by her children: Jeff Uhrig of Lodi, WI; Brian Uhrig of Minneapolis, MN; and Janice Uhrig of Madison, WI; and her brothers: Thomas (Rene) Miller and Robert "Rem" (sister Joan) of Madison WI; brother-in-law Robert Uhrig of Black River Falls, WI and sister-in-law Emily (Rennie) Lindner of Edgar, WI and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Arley; her parents Howard and Elda Meiller; sister-in-law Marliss and brother-in-law Harold Collinson; sister-in-law Jeanine Uhrig; niece Kathy Miller, Judy Hill, and nephew Tommy Collinson.

A celebration of life will be held for Marilyn and Arley on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at First Unitarian Church, 900 University Bay Dr., Madison WI 53705 at 2:00pm - 5:00pm. Gathering at 2:00pm with a Service at 2:30pm and a meal to follow.
