A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Katie's service may be live streamed on Saturday at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJwY0fEQJ-Y.

Kathleen "Katie" Marie Otero (Shine) was born on June 29, 1958, in Washington D.C. She was educated in the Virginia area and took classes at Northern Virginia Community College after high school. On July 22, 1980, she was married to the love of her life and high school sweetheart; Raymond Cuevas Otero at Virginia Beach, outside of Alexandria, Virginia. They were happily married for 43 years and were blessed with two children; Joshua and Mary. For most of her adult life she worked as a contractor in the telecommunications industry.

Katie cared for her family deeply and always put them first. Some of her hobbies include quilting; which was something that she loved to do and did right up until she was unable to. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and using foods that her and Ray grew from their beautiful garden. That garden was known in the neighborhood for its beauty and the care that Katie and Ray put into it. Her love was fierce, kind, and felt deeply. She was a kind and beautiful soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She will continue to be everywhere and in everything.

She is survived by her husband Ray and children Joshua and Mary. She was preceded in passing by her mother, Maxine McGovern, and her step-father, Jim McGovern.

Services are entrusted to Ames Monument & Cremation Center.
