CHRISTOPHER 'CHRIS' CARL
MUSCATINE, Iowa - Christopher 'Chris' Carl, 70, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the University of Iowa.
Celebration of life will be at a later date. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family in care of his wife, Peggy Ann. Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Chris was born on May 21, 1952, in Muscatine, the son of Deacon Robert Carl Sr. and Maryrose T. Brown Carl. He married Peggy Ann Schmelzer on October 2, 1978, in Muscatine.
Chris was a Veteran of the United States Army and served 3 years in Germany during the Vietnam War. He worked at Monsanto in maintenance and retired after 38 years.
He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed target shooting. He loved watching and collecting movies and loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his great grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann; children, Sara Kauffman (Michael Lihs) from Wapello, Sandi Jones from Muscatine, and Brian Carl (Nicole) from Muscatine; grandchildren, Trey, Anthony, Jobi, Jace, and Matthew; great grandson, Isaiah; siblings, Robert Carl Jr. (Su) from Hawaii, Greg Carl (Peggy Sue) from Davenport, Tony Carl (Deb) from Muscatine, and Amy Brockert (Jim) from Muscatine; several nieces and nephews; brother in laws, Michael Safley (Beverly) from Muscatine and David Safley from Muscatine.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents; and sister in-law, Patricia Safley.
