"Dear Iva & family...so very sorry to hear of your loss. Truman was wonderful, always cheery & fun to talk to. Sending love and hugs , Mardi Monroe Williams Joan Monroe Kozal"
Truman Sherwood Forest was born in Detroit, MI on April 11, 1942. While music was a passion throughout his life, the joy of his life was found in his family.
Married to Iva Jane in June of 1981, they formed a family including their children,Anne, Kelley, Pam and Doug. Ultimately, Truman relished in the role of Grandpa. It didn't matter the reason, time with his grandkids was time well spent. Fishing, camping, golf, concerts, college basketball games and Lions football were just a few things he shared with his family. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, as thisday brought his family together.
Truman and Iva traveled across the country with many special friends and family. Their love was infectious and their journey was filled with their love of books, music and learning. Truman's career started as an educator and that was a constant throughout his life. He gained a Doctorate from Western Michigan University in Educational Leadership. He also advocated for teachers, for many years, with the MEA. As well, he worked in Human Resource roles for Muskegon County, and later for the City of Muskegon. Truman also taught human resource and public administration courses at WMU and GVSU. In all of his roles, he enjoyed working with professionals that created change and supported people, always forefront in his focus.
Truman directed the White Lake Chorale and numerous choirs over the years. He enjoyed being a part of churches from Whitehall, to Saugatuck, to Grand Rapids. He enjoyed sharing his love of music and the many friendships that were created.
He also composed a number of musical pieces that have been shared across the country.
Truman is survived by his wife of 42 years, Iva Jane. His children, Kelley (Rick), Pam (Ron), Anne (David) and Doug. His grandchildren include Jacob, Maxwell, Samuel, Mackenzie, Garrett, Jackson, Karlina, Kaela, Nick, Jason, Jaxon, Jameson and Brock. While Truman supported many organizations focused on people in need, donations to Every Woman's Place or the charity of your choice would be
appreciated.

"Truman touched my life like no other teacher I ever had. I was honored to be in his robed choir at Southgate High from 1966 through 1968. He believed in me and helped to mentor me. He also helped direct two musical productions I was in----"Bye Bye Birdie" and "South Pacific", where he gave me confidence to sing solos. He had confidence in me as a young lady, trusting me to babysit Kelley at his Wyandotte home. We always ended our concerts with a special song ..."May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You". The lyrics now have a special meaning---"May our Lord keep you, Truman, until we meet again!" May the good Lord bless and keep you whether near or far away May you find that long awaited golden day today May your troubles all be small ones and your fortunes ten times ten May the good Lord bless and keep you till we meet again May you walk with sunlight shining and a bluebird in every tree May there be a silver lining back on every cloud you see Fill your dreams with sweet tomorrows never mind what might have been May the good Lord bless and keep you till we meet again"
"I was in his Men?s Glee Club in Southgate High for 1970-71. He was respected by everyone , he always had time for everyone. I and those who had him as a teacher will always admire and respect him. He will always be in my memories . Prayers for the family ??"
