Joseph Sveda
November 20, 1932 - March 26, 2023

Joseph Sveda, age 90, of Antigo, died on March 26, 2023 at Rosalia Gardens Assisted Living under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was born on November 20, 1932 in Deerbrook, a son of John and Emily (Frisch) Sveda. He married Kathleen Wagner on September 30, 1961 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Antigo.

He served in the United States Air Force in Korea and Japan.

Joe attended Langlade County Normal School, received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, a Master's Degree from Loyal University in Chicago, and attended the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Joe had a long career with the Unified School District of Antigo. He taught at several country schools and was a teacher and principal at Spring Valley. He was the head of the Title One Program, Assistant Superintendent for 16 years, and Superintendent for 4 years. He retired in 1993.

He was a member of SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church and served on the church council. Joe was a member of the Sparks-Doernenburg American Legion Post 3, Antigo Lions Club, and Antigo Kiwanis Club. He served on the Board of Directors for Langlade Memorial Hospital and the Antigo Public Library. He was a supporter of the Langlade Historical Society and a member and past president of the Retired Teachers Association.

Joe enjoyed gardening, traveling, writing, and time spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; two sons, Larry (Sue) Sveda of Marshall and Doug (Jennifer) Sveda of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Joseph (Paige) Sveda of Bloomington, IL, John (Sarah) Sveda of Germantown, Emily Sveda of Minneapolis, and Megan Sveda of Milwaukee; two sisters, Rose Packard of Antigo and Emily Novak of Antigo; three brothers, Frank Sveda of Stanley, George (Coralee) Sveda of Deerbrook, and Ron Sveda of Deerbrook; and brother-in-law, Robert (Carol) Wagner of Antigo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Sorano; a brother, John Sveda Jr.; brothers-in-law, Frank Sorano and James Novak; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Sveda.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 1 at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Military honors will be held on Saturday at the church following the Mass.
Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31 at the Bradley Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m., with a parish wake service at 6:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m.
