Alvie Young, 85, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Israel Family Hospice House following a recent diagnosis of multiple myeloma.

Services are pending at this time. Ames Monument & Cremation Center are taking care of Alvie and his family.

Alvie William Young was born February 25, 1938, to Edward J. Young and Lily M. (Beck) Young on his family's farm East of Audubon, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He attended a one-room schoolhouse on Mastersen's Hill, until the completion of the eighth grade. Alvie later graduated from Audubon High School with the class of 1956.

During his high school years, he was very active in the FFA chapter; serving as the local president in 1955/56 and was also the southwest Iowa district president at the same time.

Alvie attended Iowa State College, where he was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity, graduating in 1960. During his time at ISU he met, fell in love, and married Katherine Ann Strait of Perry, Iowa on August 30, 1959. To this union two children were born: Julie and Scott. The family lived in Waukee, Urbandale, Dubuque and later Ames. He was a very successful salesman for American Hospital Supply and later Scientific Products, once capturing the national salesman of the year award.

Survivors include his two children, Julie Wood of Webster City and her daughters, Katherine and Anna, and Scott (Susan) Young of Davenport and their children, Connor (Kalley) Young and Lauren Young; brother, Craig Young of Audubon; as well as other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, his parents, his sister Karen, his niece Norita and brother-in-law Verne Wieslar and his sister-in-law Susan.
