In loving memory of

Janet Wing
March 9, 1941 - April 26, 2023

Janet Wing, 82, of Jewell passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at her home following a four-year lung cancer diagnosis.

A Celebration of Janet's Life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Jewell Golf and Country Club.

Janet Louise Hoversten was born March 9, 1941, in Williams, Iowa to Glen and Dorothy (Rex) Hoversten. She grew up in Radcliffe where she received her education. On October 3, 1958, Janet was united in marriage to Lyle Clark Wing at the Rose Grove Church in Williams. The couple made their home in Jewell and were blessed with two children, Brenda and Jon.

Janet was an entrepreneur; she owned and operated two secondhand stores during her career. The first store was 2nd Time Around, which she opened in Story City. Later she opened Sister Act in Ellsworth with her sister, Patty.

Janet enjoyed bowling, golf, water skiing, boating, camping, working on crossword puzzles, Scrabble, going to her kids sporting events and happy hour with her friends. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Most days you could show up to their house and find any collection of people from the area, she was loved by many.

Janet was very competitive. She was an excellent bowler and golfer, which is evident by the dozens of trophies she had won over the years. She enjoyed playing cards with such games as: 500, Euchre, and Spades, among others. Her favorite game, however, was Scrabble. To beat her was not an easy task and do not try to pull a questionable word, because it would be challenged!

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Lyle Wing; children, Brenda (Wing) Dion Whipple and Jon Wing; grandchildren, Macy Wing, Alexa (Whipple) and Zack Meek, and Jacob and Angeline Stahler; great grandchild, Owen Hanson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen Hoversten and Dorothy Appelgate; brother, Sonny Hoversten; and daughter, Linda Wing.

Condolences and memories of Janet may be shared with her family on her tribute page.

"Janet was the definition of sweetheart, always asked how are you doing before you could ask her the same question. I'm privileged to get to know her and her family, I'll call myself lucky and blessed. To Lyle, Brenda, and Jon, thank you for letting me into the family. God bless you. Craig Sills "
