If you ever question whether you've crossed paths with him, rest assured that you haven't, because encountering Dave is an unforgettable experience.

Dave entered this world on February 24th, 1949, as the third child of Mel and Rosemary. Growing up in a humble household of five siblings, he embarked on a remarkable journey. At the age of 18, Dave was called to serve in the Vietnam War, bravely dedicating five years of his life to active combat. Recognized for his valor, the Navy bestowed upon him several commendations, including the prestigious Purple Heart. Following his honorable service, Dave returned to his hometown of Fairmont, MN, where fate introduced him to the love of his life, Julie (Evans) Range. Their union in 1975 marked the beginning of a beautiful journey together. If Dave were among us today, he would chuckle and proudly declare, "I've been married for 48 years... to the same amazing woman!" That signature laughter of his would follow, truly one of a kind. In 1985, they moved to Rochester to raise their sons, and Dave dedicated over three decades of his life to working for Olmsted County, with a significant portion of that time spent as a union steward for the local 49ers.

Dave's legacy lives on through his two extraordinary sons, Chris (Krista) Range of Maple Grove and Jon (Shannon) Range of Rochester. He cherished them deeply and took immense pride in their accomplishments. Dave's grandchildren, Jordan, and Morgan Range (of Maple Grove), and Brooklen Range (of Rochester), will hold him close in their hearts. He imparted his wisdom, taught them the art of fishing and poker, shared war stories, and, if we're being honest, may have introduced them to a few choice words along the way. Affectionately known as "Grumpy Grandpa," Dave might have exhibited a hint of grumpiness at times, but his love for his grandkids was immeasurable.

Dave found joy in the company of friends and family, fought fiercely for his country, and had a knack for sharing mildly inappropriate jokes. He was a man of catchphrases, often exclaiming, "that's right..." His hobbies included playing pool, fishing, tending to his yard and garden, collecting coins, embarking on flea market adventures with his wife, and caring for his beloved cat, Charlie. You could frequently find Dave swapping stories and enjoying the camaraderie at Brothers Bar and Grill or the Legion. And, of course, he had a deep affection for an ice-cold, or even lukewarm, Old Milwaukee. Dave never met a rule he couldn't break, a boundary he couldn't push, a line he couldn't cross, or a story he couldn't embellish. He was a storyteller in his own right, for he didn't just tell stories-he became the story.

Dave led a simple life as an ordinary man, finding fulfillment in spending 48 years with the love of his life, witnessing his sons' journey into fatherhood, and creating cherished memories with his grandchildren. For Dave, these experiences were more than enough.
In heaven, Dave will reunite with his parents, his war comrades, and dear friends. They eagerly await his arrival, eager to relish in his stories once more.
As Dave would often sing or say:
"In heaven, there is no beer, that's why we drink it here. And when we're gone from here, all our friends will be drinking all the beer!"

Memorial Service Details
Location: Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home
Date: Saturday, June 17th
Time: Memorial Service will be held from 10-11am, with a visitation one hour prior (9-10am)

Immediately following the Memorial Service, please join us at the American Legion in Rochester, for a Military Honors Dedication, and a Remembrance Luncheon.
