MUSCATINE, IOWA - Marion F. Martin, 97, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Lutheran Living.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 21 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Church in Muscatine, followed by a lunch. There will be no separate visitation. A private burial will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Treeline Church, a newly-formed church in Ann Arbor, MI planted by his granddaughter and her husband, David and Stefanie Livingston: https://treelineannarbor.churchcenter.com/giving/to/general Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Marion was born April 10, 1926 in Conway, SC, the son of Stephen Cornelius Martin and Beulah Thompson. He married Loudean Helms on June 16, 1952 in Bensenville, IL.
Marion grew up on the farm and served his country in the United States Army during WWII on the front lines of Germany. There his heart was captured to return to Europe as a missionary, this time carrying a Bible and not a gun. He served faithfully in Naples, Italy for 38 years with WorldVenture planting churches, running a Christian bookstore, purchasing a summer camp, and many other leadership positions. When he "retired" he pastored in Chicago for 10 years and then moved to Muscatine where he served at Calvary Church in various roles for 8 years.
Marion will be remembered for his deep love for Jesus, his family and for the Church, his kind heart as a pastor to so many, and his attention to detail in all things. He was faithful. So faithful. So kind. So dedicated. He could say along with the Apostle Paul, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing." (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
Marty will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his children, Bruce Martin (Deborah) of Muscatine, Deb Martin of Littleton, CO, and Susan Tarallo (Marcello) of Naples, Italy; Grandchildren Adrienne Grimes (Nic), Stefanie Livingston (David), Giovanni Tarallo, Valentina Tarallo; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Marion was preceded in death by his wife, Loudean. his one-day old son, Daniel, and his granddaughter Rachel Westing.
