Sidney Peter Nowinsky
December 28, 1938 - June 15, 2023

Sidney Peter Nowinsky, of Antigo, died on June 15, 2023 at Rosalia Gardens under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 84 years old. He was born on December 28, 1938, a son of Harold and Hildegard (Richter) Nowinsky. Sid was raised in Hatley and was a graduate of DC Everest High School, class of 1957.

Sid served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. He was with the 549th Military Police in Panama. He was a pitcher on the Army baseball team while in Panama and was drafted by Kansas City Athletics.

He married Janet Schreurs on September 2, 1961 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Aniwa.

Sid was a locomotive engineer for Chicago Northwestern, Soo-Line, and retired from Canadian Pacific Railway. He and his wife Janet, owned Sid and Jan's Tilton Hilton Bar in Aniwa from 1964 to 1974. Sid served as Aniwa Village President.

He was a Voyageur Militare in Langlade County Voiture 1204, 40 et 8 and a member of the Monsignor Conrad Saile Council 1002 Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball, gardening, mushroom picking, music, and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; three sons, Joel (Jeanne) Nowinsky of Antigo, Samuel (Kelli) Nowinsky of Columbus, OH, and Jason (Christy) Nowinsky of Wausau; grandchildren, Luke (Betsy) Nowinsky, Mollie Nowinsky, Max (fiancé Holly) Nowinsky, Nolan (Alyson) Nowinsky, Reese Nowinsky, Clu Nowinsky, Benjamin Nowinsky, Riley Penkwitz, and Reena Penkwitz; great-grandchildren, Ruby, Zuzu, and Etta Nowinsky, and Paisley Nowinsky; a brother-in-law, Jerry Schroeder of Hatley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Don Kelley; a brother, David (Lorraine) Nowinski and a sister, Lynda Schroeder.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial with Military Honors will take place in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Aniwa.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home. A parish wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and the Knights will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation will also be Thursday, June 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
