Joan Elizabeth Welch
August 19, 1932 - July 21, 2023



Joan Elizabeth Welch, 90, of Ames, passed away on July 21st 2023, at Bethany Life in Story City, Iowa.
A public visitation will be held at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care in Ames this Saturday, July 29th, at 11:00 to 12:00, with a short celebration of life service to follow. A private family interment will take place at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Joan was born August 19th, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Emil and Mildred Neubauer of Chicago.

Joan attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1955 with BSc in mathematics. Joan met her beloved husband Ronald Welch at Iowa State, where they married on June 13th, 1953, and resided in Ames thereafter. They have three children: Michael (Claudia), in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Linda, in Ames, Iowa, and David (Patti), in Frisco, Colorado.

Joan is survived by her three children as well as three grandchildren - Camille, Simon and Charlotte. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ron, sister Lois, brother James.
Joan was an active member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames where she served in administration for many years.

Joan's passions were a love for books, music, art, and handcrafts. She was also a gifted seamstress and cross-stitch enthusiast. She was a longtime supporter of the arts and social organizations - both locally and nationally.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ames Animal Shelter in Joan's name.
