John P. Woertz
June 18, 1942 - August 9, 2023

John P. Woertz, of Antigo, died on August 9, 2023 at his home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 81 years old. He was born on June 18, 1942 in Chicago, a son of the late Herman and Bernice (Racas) Woertz. He married Rose Harbottle on November 18, 1978 in Fremont, Nebraska.

He graduated from St. Gregory Catholic High School in Chicago in 1961.

John was a dairy farmer and truck driver. He was later employed as a mechanic at Ford Garage and Elcho Bus Company. He owned and operated Corner Cafe in Summit Lake for many years. In his retirement, he worked for Walmart in the produce department and as a greeter.

He loved fishing especially on Post Lake when it was still peaceful. He was a CB radio operator and loved John Wayne movies.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; four daughters, Leslie, Sheri, Heleen Woertz of Antigo, and Gina Woertz (Jason Meister) of Pearson; two sons, Michael and Steve; a sister, Kristine (Dave) Bierbauer of Tomahawk; grandchildren, Jude, Stanley, Sierra, Ashley and Marshall; along with other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, David; and a brother, Richard Woertz.

Burial will take place at the Elton Cemetery in the town of Evergreen on Friday, August 11 at 1 p.m.

"John was a great story teller, always helpful n a laugh that was infectious! His eyes lit up with each smile! As a Walmart greeter it was great to chat with him n catch up! The family n friends of John n Rose will forever have great memories! That's all we have after a death! John is no longer in pain n is in peace! Rest easy ole friend! I won't be able to take off work to attend his service, but know I'll be there in heart! God bless each one of you! "
