Peter J. Dernbach, of Antigo, died on August 18, 2023 at his home. He was 82 years old. He was born on July 28, 1941 in New London a son of Leonard and Phyllis (Ruckdashel) Dernbach.
Pete was a graduate of Washington High School in New London. He had a 20-year career service in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1979. He was employed at Citigroup as a systems engineer from 1985 to 2003.
He married Cecilia (Rhoden) Oppermann on September 19, 2003, a very special day for the couple was October 1, 2019, when their marriage was con validated in the presence of the Lord.
Pete obtained his sport pilot license at the age of 70, his passion was flying his Rans S-5. He was a member of SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church.
Pete was a loving husband, loving Cecilia with more love than she had ever known. He was generous to people in need and was a strong advocate for the sanctity of life. Pete was homebound for the past three years, but always remained cheerful and loving, except for the many times Cecilia beat him at Yahtzee. During the past few years, they were able to grow closer to the Lord and strengthen their faith thru prayer and scripture.
Cecilia was pleased to walk this journey by Pete's side and her heart goes with him. They believed this world is not their true home and Pete was called to his eternal home where they will be together again.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia; two daughters, DeAnna Hebbe and Kim (Bobby) Segura; a son, Scott (Isabella) Dernbach all of Las Vegas; two step-sons, Scott (Melodie) Chmielski and Mark Chmielski both of Deerfield, IL; seven grandchildren, Kaycee, Joshua, Erik, Ryan, Jim, Joey, and Ashley; a brother, Jim (Nancy) Dernbach of Milwaukee; a sister, Patty Dernbach-Gordan of Florida; five sisters-in-law, Florence Scholl of Kimberly, Rosalyn Oberstadt of New London, Ruth (Dick) Simpson of Clintonville, Carolyn Rhoden of Franksville, and Rosemary Rhoden of New London. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his previous wife, Joanne Chmielski; a sister, Judy Dernbach, sisters-in-law, Marion Woeshnick, Loraine Dixon, Beverly Myers, LaVonne Sommers; and brothers-in-law, Harold Rhoden, Bill Rhoden, Jerry Rhoden, Victor Rhoden, Bob Rhoden, Lawrence Rhoden, Roland Scholl, and Ray Oberstadt.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 23, at 11 a.m. at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church with Reverend George Daniel officiating. Military honors will take place following the Mass at church.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Bradley Funeral Home.
Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Weyawega on Thursday at 3 p.m.
