MUSCATINE, Iowa - Dorothy Riley, 88, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at home.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at St. Mathias Church. The Reverend Chris Weber will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.


Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on December 20, 1934, in Muscatine, the daughter of Raymond Joseph and Elizabeth 'Elsie' Helen Theobald Kurriger. She married Edward Walter Riley IV on August 31, 1958.

She graduated from Muscatine Catholic High School in 1952. She then graduated in 1954 from Nursing Training at Mercy Hospital. After graduating, she worked at the Chicago Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium. She moved back to Muscatine and raised five children while running the Riley Ambulance with her husband, Ed.

Dorothy was a member of Ss. Mary and Mathias Catholic Parish, The Bells of St. Mary's, and Catholic Daughters Joan of Arc #524. She enjoyed watching the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandson. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching them win the World Series in 2016.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Ed Riley of Muscatine; four children, Martha Orr and Kevin Brown, of Fairfax, Virginia, Sarah Woolley and husband, Rick, of Macon, Missouri, Jennifer Riley-Vogel and husband, Joseph, of Muscatine, and Edward 'Ted' Walter Riley V and wife, Kelley, of St. Paul, Minnesota; son-in-law, Doug Phelps of Muscatine; nine grandchildren, Erin Collins and husband, Andy Steinfeldt, Caitlin Collins, Jordan Collins, Charles Vogel and wife, Sarah, Samantha Vogel, Erica Riley and fiancé Steven Bell, Edward 'Teddy' Walter Riley VI and Bobbi Braaten, Maxwell Riley and fiancé, Audrey Tchaa, and Nicholas Riley and fiancé, Atheena Yang; and one great grandson, Henry Joseph Vogel.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Colleen Riley; and two siblings, Richard Kurriger and Marie Greenwald.
