In loving memory of

Patrick D. Meagher
September 4, 1943 - September 10, 2023

Patrick D. Meagher, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away on September 10, 2023 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He was 80 years old. He was born on September 4, 1943 in Mattoon, a son of Donald and Margaret (Schetter) Meagher. He married Carol Berge on December 17, 1977 at Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel in Historic Fort Snelling State Park, Minneapolis.

He was a graduate of Mattoon High School, class of 1961. Patrick graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in economics and attended the University of Minnesota. He was an economist for the State of Minnesota until his retirement in 2011.

Pat enjoyed flying and fast cars. He also liked to go grouse hunting in Northern Minnesota and pheasant hunting on Carol's parents' farm in Minnesota. He considered it a bonus when his mother-in-law would clean the pheasants he captured.

He and Carol took numerous scuba diving trips where Pat took thousands of underwater pictures.

They traveled to Europe in 1978 and much to Carol's dismay they spent hours in the Army Museum in Paris.

Several years later there was a trip to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico to visit the Maya ruins. In 1969 Pat and two college friends drove from Mattoon to the Yucatan in his 1949 Ford. The Ford is in a neighbor's garage in St. Paul.

The trips in later years were primarily back to Mattoon where he was able to occupy his favorite place on earth - a chair on the screened-in front porch of the house his grandfather built. He was proud of his ties to Mattoon and cherished his memories of growing up there.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carol Meagher of St. Paul; a sister, Carol Meagher of Madison; a brother, William Meagher of Gresham; brothers-in-law, Arden (Deb) Berge of Apple Valley, MN and Vernon Berge of Milan, MN; and a nephew Brandon (Susan) Berge of Monticello, MN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Patricia Berge; and nephew, Justin Berge.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16, at 2 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Wes Jedras officiating. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Mattoon.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 16, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

"Pat and I were colleagues for 30 years forecasting the MN economy and tax revenues. Pat worked tirelessly to improve our forecasts and explain them. He broadened my horizons. Were it not for Pat I would never have ridden in a small airplane or have gone grouse hunting. Eva and I send our deepest sympathy to Carol. "
