Alice McNertney was born to Earl Duane and Reinelda Ivetta (McCoy) on September 2, 1938, in Story City, Iowa. She attended a rural country school and graduated from Gilbert High School. After high school, she went on to Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines, becoming a registered nurse. She worked at Mercy Hospital, Mary Greeley Hospital and then spent 44 years at McFarland Clinic in Ames. On November 25, 1960, Alice married the love of her life William (Bill) McNertney. Together they would go on to make their home in Ames, Iowa. They had two children, Julie and Mike.

Alice and Bill loved to travel and spend time at their cabin in Clear Lake. Alice's bags were always packed and ready to go. Even as a plus one on a trip to Las Vegas with her son-in law. Her pride and joy were her grandkids and being a part of all their activities. Wherever they were...whatever they were doing...she was there. Alice loved reading, tending to her gardens and plants. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Many holidays were spent at Grandma Alice's/Aunt Fayes's house full of family, friends, food and fun. She loved to socialize and go out for dinner with her friends. Especially, playing cards with her "besties" Pat, Rosann, Charlotte, and her sister Norma Jean.

Left to cherish Alice's memory is her daughter, Julie (Bob) Krause; granddaughter Cole Krause; grandsons, Michael (Natalie) Krause, John (Josie) Krause, Daniel (Nicole) Krause; great grandchildren, Camden, Carly, Quinn, and Walker Krause; sister-in-law Marilyn Baldus; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Norma McNertney; many loved nieces and nephews.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Reinelda Baldus; son, Mike McNertney; husband and love of her life, Bill McNertney; siblings, Kay Naughton, Norma Jean Clouser and Earl Duane Baldus.

"What a dear, wonderful, fun loving, class act lady Alice was. We remember her showing up to everything her grandchildren were involved in in her sporty little white convertible. She always had a smile on her face and was very very proud of all her family. She will forever live on in all the fun memories you have.??"
