"Sorry to hear of Uncle Leroy's death. I brought him some enlarged pictures of family because of his failing eyesight. The two pictures Sean posted are actually of Leroy's brothers, Ed and Chet. There is a great story behind the musky picture (and Chet loved to tell it). While hammering down loose nails on the wooden family pier on the Flambeau River with Ed, Chet hit the musky right between the eyes as it was sunning itself in the early morning light. It rolled over belly up. The boys brought the big fish up to the house where Grandma Caroline Schaper cleaned it. The family had musky for lunch that day. As improbable as that story sounds, the picture confirms it. Leroy ran the Bobcat Tavern east of Fifield, WI for many years until it was destroyed by fire. My father, Adolph Olafson, and I used to visit with Leroy there. He was a great host. Gene Olafson "

"I met Leroy while we were each on a walk in Antigo. He told wonderful stories of his memory farming with horses, attending polka dances, and of his siblings. We bonded over a shared love of raw farm fresh milk, live music, home made pies and soup. Thank you, Leroy for your friendship. And thank you to Patty and Shaun Vanhandel for their daily care and attention to his needs over the last several years."
