Duane Green
March 30, 1936 - October 13, 2023




Orval Duane Green, 87, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023, at Israel Family Hospice House. A public visitation will be held at Grandon Funeral & Cremation Care (414 Lincoln Way, Ames Iowa, 50010) on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church (516 Kellogg Ave Ames, Iowa, 50010) at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family for a fund yet to be established.

Duane Green was born to Forest and Mabel (Ball) on March 30, 1936, in Ames, Iowa. He was raised in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1954. Duane was a dedicated husband to his beloved wife JoEtta for 66 years and a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather (grandpa great).

Duane worked for the United States Postal Service in Ames and retired after 30 years. In retirement he kept busy as a school bus driver for St. Cecilia Catholic School and Midwest Coaches. Duane enjoyed driving groups to the Mall of America and especially loved driving "The Ladies" to Meskwaki Casino.

Over the years Duane kept busy umpiring softball, watching Ames High football and basketball, camping, playing cards, working on word puzzles, meeting his friends for coffee at Hy Vee in the afternoon, doting over Winston "the dog he didn't want", but most of all his love of bowling. He was a member of the Ames Area Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife JoEtta of Ames, daughters, Cheryl (JR) DeVore of Collins, Kathy (John) Packer of Ames, Linda (Alan) Essex of Kellogg and Janet (Jeff) Van Horn of Sheldahl. Sister Gloria Estes of Indianola and Brother Ron "Bear" Green of Ames. 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Mabel Green; sisters, Carol White and Shirley Strudthoff.
