In loving memory of

Dexter Joseph Hohensee
September 5, 1985 - November 7, 2023

The world lost a great man the morning of November 7, 2023. Dexter Joseph Hohensee, age 38, of Antigo, died due to ongoing complications from Wegener's Granulomatosis, a rare autoimmune disease, that he had been fighting for several years.

He was born September 5, 1985, at Langlade County Memorial Hospital in Antigo, the son of Carl (Eva) Hohensee of Antigo and Mary (Timothy) McMahon of Menasha.

Dexter was a 2004 graduate of Antigo High School. While in high school, he enjoyed cultivating his love of the outdoors and racing anything with wheels.

He would further his education by attending the University of Wisconsin-Stout, graduating with a degree in Construction Management. During his college years, Dexter enjoyed learning and excelling in the sport of Rugby, as well as making lifelong friendships.

His love and loyalty to family brought him back to Antigo after his graduation to care for his elderly grandfather. His skills with heavy machinery led to owning and operating Dexter's Dirt. Dexter also worked with his father in the construction industry.

Dexter's work ethic was also put on display with his duties on the family farm. It wasn't uncommon to find him putting in hours at the barn long after the workday had ended for most people. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, utilizing his skills in machinery, repair, and construction to the utmost.

After his return to Antigo, he met and married Marista Pizl on October 13, 2018 in Antigo. Before they were married, they brought into their life a dog, Max. Max is a yellow lab, and the love shared between Max and Dexter cannot be matched. Max would get excited every time a truck pulled into the driveway because he thought his Daddy was home.

Dexter will be deeply missed by his parents; wife, Marista of Antigo; brothers Jason (Desiree) Hohensee, Andy (Shawna) Nelson, and Jamie (Jenna) Nelson all of Antigo; sister, Erica (Jeremy) Fuller of Birnamwood; father and mother-in-law, Greg and Tina Pizl of Antigo; brother-in-law, Greg (Chelsie) Pizl of La Crosse; sister-in-law, Alanda (Travis) Pavek of Oshkosh; nephew, Matthew Rickert, and niece, Talia Pavek. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, step-nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Northstar Lanes in the Banquet Hall on Tuesday, November 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 5:30 p.m. led by his brother, Jason. Dexter was an easy going, hardworking man, so wearing blue jeans and a neon shirt is welcomed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. A scholarship will be established in Dexter's honor.
