In loving memory of

John Peter Wacker
December 6, 1934 - November 12, 2023

John Peter Wacker, our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, went to be with his Lord & Savior on 11-12-23 after a well fought battle with bladder cancer. He was 88.

John was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 6, 1934, to the late Arthur G. Wacker and Laura J. (Koehler) Wacker, his father came from a long line of German Swabian Lutherans from around Stuttgart Germany. He grew up in Ann Arbor, MI, his father was the Pastor of Salem Lutheran Church. From these beginnings, he was a devoted Lutheran and Michigan Wolverines fan. Unfortunately, his mother died when he was 12 years old, and he does remember that she was one of the Rosie the Riveters at the Willow Run Bomber Plant during WWII.

John attended Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw MI and graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1952 with the yearbook caption "Better late than never". After high school John enjoyed his work in the advertising department of the Ann Arbor News. John married Nancy Durocher in 1956. He then attended that, name not to be mentioned, University up North. John served in the US Army's 4th Infantry Division in Bamberg Germany from 1957-1959. He was a Public Information Officer and because he grew up speaking German, he was an escort to various German notables including the family of the late Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg of Valkyrie fame.

Back in Ann Arbor John started his career at Fingerle Lumber and eventually established Wacker & Tuthill General Contractors. He was especially proud of building the grade school at his boyhood church, Salem Lutheran. After one too many Michigan recessions, John moved to Ft Myers, FL in 1983 where he met his future wife, Christin Cupp. John remarried in 1989 and after retiring, John facilitated Christin's career by taking care of their daughter Kelsey Ann and willingly moving all over Florida. John and Christin made their last move to Sarasota, FL in 2010 and are proud members of Ascension Lutheran Church.

John loved all sports, especially snow skiing, tennis, and golf. He would be found at the driving range for hours in the hottest weather. He enjoyed all word games and every morning you would see him with his coffee and a crossword puzzle while the dog Piper and cat Okra begged for attention.

John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Christin Cupp; his siblings Elizabeth Burtt of Ann Arbor, MI, Aurthur (Janet) Wacker of Winter Haven FL, Paul (Jeanne) Wacker of Oviedo, FL; daughter Lynn Wacker of Phoenix AZ, and her children Noah Moore (Beth) and Isaiah (Katie) Moore of Phoenix, AZ, Leah (Kareem) McCoy of Ypsilanti, MI, Rebekah Moore of Los Angeles, CA; David Wacker of Noel, MO, and his children Kailie (Ricky) Marquez of Highland Ranch, CO, Nicole Wacker of Morrison, CO, and Sean (Sierra) Wacker of Wiggins CO; Paul Wacker of Ann Arbor, MI, Kelsey Ann Wacker, her husband Nathan Simpson and their child Stevie June of Chicago, IL. & 9 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church in Sarasota on Friday, November 24 @3:00. After the service, a reception will be at Tamiami Tap 711 S. Osprey Ave, Sarasota.
