Kyle Christopher Jacobsen was born on October 2, 1978, to Roger & Janet Jacobsen in Des Moines.
After a yearlong courageous battle with cancer, he passed away on November 18, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Kyle graduated from West Des Moines Valley High School in 1997. During his high school career he discovered his passion in life while working at Glen Oaks Country Club as a grounds keeper. He went on to attend Iowa State University to study Turf Grass Management from the Horticulture Department. While at ISU he met and proposed to the love of his life Stephanie Wiegand under the Campanile.
During his time at ISU, he was able to gain experience at two different PGA events. The first was at Spring Hill Country Club in MN, Pinehurst #8 in NC during the 1999 US Open. The second was at Pebble Beach in CA during the 2000 US Open with his father Roger.
After graduation from ISU in 2001, he took a job in Sheboygan, WI at Whistling Straits as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. Kyle and Stephanie were married on October 26, 2002, in Ames, IA. During his time at Whistling Straits, he was part of the 2004 PGA Championship.
After 4 years in Sheboygan he moved to Mullen, NE to supervise the build and grown-in of Dismal River Golf Club for 9 months in 2005. In the Spring of 2006 he moved to Shorewood, IL where he started as an Assistant Superintendent at Butler National Golf Club.
After 2 years at Butler National he moved to Lake Zurich, IL to be a Superintendent at Twin Orchard Country Club. During this time his son Adam was born in February 2008 as well as their daughter Erin in July 2010.
After 10 years in the Chicago area they moved to Ames, IA where Kyle started working for the City of Ames as a Park and Rec Supervisor.
During his lifetime he was very active in the Boy Scouts of America where he earned his Eagle Scout Rank on June 24, 1996. He continued his work in scouting by working with cub scouts in Pack 159 and becoming the scoutmaster of Troop 160 where both his kids are involved. His proudest moment with each of them was to be able to mark them at the same camp, in the same field, that he was marked for receiving the Order of the Arrow call out.
In the past 10 years, he has reconnected with his 2 best friends Matt DeDoncker and Mike Kidder. The three families have chosen Galena, MO to share their love of boating, clearing land on all of their properties, and to make so many memories and inside jokes to bring smiles to faces for many years to come.
