Maureen G. Zitkus

Maureen G. Zitkus of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2024. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Clarence and Genevieve Benson in 1934, but grew up in Park Ridge, IL, attending St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church until she married in 1954. She attended St. Patrick's Academy in Des Plaines, Illinois, graduating in 1952. Activities during her lifetime that brought her great pleasure were reading books and supporting her eight children in all their extracurricular activities.
Maureen is survived by her eight children, daughters Sandra Zitkus (Warren Simpson), Linda Weekley (Mike), Susan Logan, and Jean Whitecotton (Steven); sons Joseph (Stephanie), Robert (Barbara), John, and Peter; sisters Kathleen Lum and Ann Bussard, 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death include her husband of 61 years, Joseph, her parents Clarence and Genevieve Benson, her brothers Jack, Terry, Tommy and Larry Benson; and sister Jean Gillen.
A memorial Mass and services will be held in Maureen's honor at a later date.
