Becky Ann McGuire died Friday, Jan. 26 at St. Anne's in Burien after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Becky can easily be pictured walking the Des Moines Marina, searching for the best finds at Goodwill and Fred Meyer, and making her friends laugh out loud at one of her stories.
Becky had the sharpest memory of anyone you'll meet, and remembered every single person's birthday, no matter how long ago she knew them. She was especially beloved by her friends and family for her steadfast loyalty and how quick she was to do a favor for others. She babysat, collected mail, watered plants, opened doors and said a cheery hello to all her neighbors. She was fast to make friends -- within just a few weeks of moving into Wesley Terrace, she had befriended the front desk staff, waitstaff and numerous other residents.
"I just love Becky," is a refrain her family members got used to hearing from nearly everyone Becky knew. In return, her generous friends gave her rides to Ivar's and Taco Time, presents of dolls and Frozen-themed toys, and their love.
Becky lived most of her life with her best friend and mom, Marcella McGuire, who died in 2011. She then lived with her other best friend and younger brother, Bob, until he died in 2019.
Becky was often funny at unexpected times. When her brother Bob remarked that he thought her apparent hearing loss was rather more pronounced at selective times, such as when he was asking her to do something, Becky shot back, "what??" (We're pretty sure she heard him.)
Her family will miss her tight handholds, fits of giggles, and frequent check-in calls. We'll have some skittles for you when we see you next, Beck.
(As Becky would say, "Oh, coool!")
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Marcy McGuire, and her brother Bob.
Becky is remembered by her many friends; sisters Sue and Jacquie; brothers-in-law Rick and Dave; nieces Julie and Rachel and their partners Caleb and Gabriel; and her favorite family member, great-nephew Miles (aka Tubi).
A celebration of life is being planned this year.
