In loving memory of

Herbert D Meyer
November 24, 1933 - March 30, 2024

Herbert D. Meyer, of Antigo, was received into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Mount View Care Center in Wausau. He was 90 years old. He was born on November 24, 1933 in Aniwa, a son of Francis and Mary (Ebert) Meyer. He attended Sandy Lane Grade School. He married Mary Petroski on May 10, 1958 at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2022.

Herb was a man of many odd jobs and talents including working for the White Owl Mink Ranch, a beer delivery route with his late brother, Fran, working on the railroad, making cheese at Kraft Foods, and at one time owning his own dump truck to haul green beans to local canneries. He also loved animals and had many dogs over the years.

He was an avid fisherman passing his love for the sport on to several generations. His annual fishing trip to Lake Gogebic in Michigan included some of his brothers and later his children joined him. He also enjoyed going to Bent's Camp on Mamie Lake in Land O' Lakes, a tradition that is still being carried out every year by his good "fishing buddies", his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Herb's true passion was working in his beautifully manicured yard. He took great pride in mowing his lawn and affectionately referred to his John Deere riding mower at "Johnny".

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Joe) Kostyn of Mosinee; two sons, William (Jackie) Meyer of Tomahawk and Don (Rachael) Meyer of Mosinee; six grandchildren, Ben (Winter) Kostyn, Corbin (Mikaela) Kostyn, Billie (Jon) Nyberg, Hanna Meyer, Sophie Meyer and Sierra Meyer; four great-grandchildren, Jackson and Ruby Kostyn and Molly and Chloe Kostyn; a sister-in-law, Lucy Meyer of Antigo; and brother-in-law, John Petroski of Maplewood, MN.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Wyrwas and Charlotte Heinrich; six brothers, Ruben, Omer, Mello, Francis, John, and Joseph Meyer in infancy.

A memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with the Very Reverend Joel Sember officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the church in Hoffmann Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Herb's name may be directed to the Langlade County Humane Society, 2204 Clermont St. Antigo, WI 54409.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mount View Care Center for the care and kindness they showed for Herb.

"Herb was an outdoorsman, for sure. If it wasn?t deer hunting the back 40 east of town it was chasing up partridge, going to the summer beach or out on the ice of many-a-lake north of Antigo with family. It would usually start with a call not later than Friday night with the question ?Anybody going out??. I remember camping out on the shore of Lake Superior with Herb and cousin Urban Ebert in July ?77. The next few days we spent trolling and pulling in our catch at Keweenaw Bay. We had many good conversations on the boat provided by his brother John and retrofitted with outriggers a few years prior with the help of many. This effort included Herb, John, my dad Babe (Omer), Bob Richling and many others in the old sport shop after hours and week ends. Herb?s job was the one to make sure that boat was in the water getting full use. And it was. Fun was had by all! "

"Uncle Herb, you are a legend in this family. As the youngest brother in the Meyer Family, you have a special place in the hearts of all your nieces and nephews. As your siblings and their spouses and Aunt Mary left us, we still had Uncle Herb (and my Mom). We will miss you, but are comforted by many fond memories from years of great stories! Barb, Bill and Don, and families, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Carol Jean "
