Barry R. Thiel, of Elcho, died on July 26, 2024 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was 83 years old. He was born on April 3, 1941 in St. Paul, Minnesota, a son of Robert and Nita (Dudenhoefer) Thiel. He married Merle Warren May 1, 1965, they had two children and later separated. Barry then married Susan (Meister) Buck on April 28, 2000 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Elcho.
He was a graduate of Waukesha High School class of 1960. Barry was in the United States Marine Corps from August 15, 1960 - August 14, 1964. Barry served in Vietnam from February 1962 - September 1963
He owned and operated Thiel's Lakeview Inn on Pelican Lake for 20 years, retiring in 2006.
He was a member and past commander of both the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post 377 Elcho and NorthwayVeterans of Foreign Wars Post 920 Pelican Lake. He was an avid trap shooter.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; three daughters, Celeste (Michele) Thiel of Oak Park, CA, Tori (Kristin) Buck of Boston, MA, and Tracy (Scott) Wilson of Dallas, TX; a son, Lance (Carrie) Thiel of Pickerington, OH; five grandchildren, Ryan, Brady, Brett, Audrey and Jack; a sister, Patricia Summers of Elcho; two brothers, Dale (Sandra) Thiel of Waukesha and Jack Thiel of Rhinelander; and a brother-in-law, Tom Montez of Waukesha.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Roxann Liburdi and Bonnie Montez; and a grandson, Benjamin.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 1, at 12:30 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Radke officiating. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Elcho Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. to the time of service.
