Our beloved Father Norton Eugene 'Gene' Erken, son of Frederick 'Fritz' and Katherine 'Bo' Erken passed away June 10th, 2024 in Seattle, WA. Born July 23rd, 1943, he spent his childhood in the Magnolia and Blue Ridge neighborhoods of Seattle. After High School he entered the National Guard and was stationed in California. He married his first wife Sandy and shortly thereafter his first child Jill was born. Ten years later his second child Matthew was born, followed by his son Jeffrey, eighteen months later. Twelve years later, with his second wife Nancy he had twins Emily and Amy.
Our Dad owned the Magnolia Lumber Yard for twenty years, after which he supported his family starting his own business, Erken Enterprises, as a drapery installer, working in the homes of some of Seattle's most famous residents. He took pride in what he did, whether it was in his professional life or helping one of his children solve a problem. He found tremendous joy in taking his children skiing and camping. He was active in the Whiski Ski Club for almost forty years. He loved taking his dog Benny to the dog park. He intentionally ended every phone conversation with his children with 'I love you.'
Our Dad is survived by his partner Carol, his second wife Nancy, his five children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In honor of our Dad, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 21st, 2024 at 2pm in the Stack Room at The Mill in Lake Stevens, WA. 1812 Main St, Lake Stevens, WA, 98258. All family and friends are welcome to join us in remembering our Dad and sharing memories
