John George Feyerer Jr. of Ames, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Green Hills Healthcare Monday, October 14, at age 85.

John was born on October 1, 1939 in Chicago, IL, the son of John George Feyerer Sr. and Claire (Barrow) Feyerer. He earned his BA from Bradley University in Peoria, IL, and married Mary Weisenburger on October 26, 1963, in Wonder Lake, IL. The couple lived in Chicago where John was a credit manager for 40 years, retiring to Ames, IA, in 2006. John was a member of Saint Cecilia Catholic Church, and served on the board at Heartland Senior Center where he volunteered with adult daycare, RSVP, and Youth and Family Shelter services.

Growing up, he worked alongside his dad as a carpenter, and continued with DIY projects over the years, painting walls and replacing floors in multiple homes. He coached youth soccer for both John and Julie, and was an encouraging, enthusiastic fan frequently in attendance at his grandchildren's soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball and football games and matches, as well as music recitals. He rode amusement park rides with the grandkids each summer, pulling a wagon full of them around once they tired of walking.

Fiercely loyal and quietly generous, he instilled strong values and moral character in his children, and derived abundant joy from time with his grandchildren. He prioritized family above all else, and leaves a great legacy of long-term commitment. He consistently put others first, organizing and planning behind the scenes to make things easier for everyone else up until his very last days with us.

John is survived by his loving wife Mary Feyerer, son John G. (Julie) Feyerer III, daughter Dr. Julie (Greg) Perkins, grandchildren Bennett (Lindsey) Feyerer, Caroline (Lars) Cassel, Ananya Feyerer, Emma Perkins, Mary Perkins, Elizabeth Perkins, Theodore Perkins and Charles Perkins, great-granddaughter Emma Kate Feyerer, and sister Joanne (Bob) Hrodey.
