"Down to earth, funny, thoughtful, reliable and devoted. Bob was a wonderful human being ?- a true mensch. He is and will continue to be much missed. "
Robert (Bob) Wayne Barnes Jr. passed away suddenly while walking his dog in Dahl Playfield in Seattle, WA, at the age of 54. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 19, 1970. He was the beloved father of Duncan and Josie. He is also survived by his parents Robert Sr. and Barbara, his brother Scott, and the mother of his children, Pamela Jacobson.
After graduating from Penn Hills High School, Bob attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, graduating in 1996. At Virginia Tech he developed a love of ultimate frisbee, which eventually drew him to Seattle.
In Seattle he began his career working as an irrigation engineer for Don Blackwell of Advanced Irrigation. After a few years Bob became part-owner of the company, where he worked for the rest of his life. Bob developed a deep friendship with Don and his wife Vicky, spanning over 30 years.
His love of the Lord led Bob to Epiphany Parish of Seattle where he became very involved, serving on the Vestry, helping with capital building and renovation projects, and leading as a Verger and Eucharistic Minister. He was committed to deepening his faith, and lived his life by constantly asking himself "who is God calling me to be?" This made him an inspiration to many in Epiphany's congregation.
Bob's greatest joy was being with his children, Duncan and Josie, and recently, his golden retriever Rex. Whether on the ski slopes, riding his road bike, or enjoying Seattle, Bob was a devoted father and friend.
He will be deeply missed.
In recognition of Bob's devotion to Epiphany Parish and his role in shaping plans for the Garden of Remembrance and Columbarium contributions are welcome toward a future memorial-such as a bench or water fountain- that will honor his memory. Please make the gift payable to Epiphany Parish with "Bob Barnes memorial gift" in the memo line.
