In loving memory of

Douglas Ross Dickinson
October 25, 1952 - June 2, 2025

Douglas Ross Dickinson, aged 72, passed away on June 2, 2025, in Issaquah, Washington. Born on October 25, 1952, Doug forged a distinguished career in radio and telecommunications that spanned several decades and states. A graduate of Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Florida, he began his career as the Director of Communications for Palm Beach County, eventually becoming the Director of Radio Support for New Jersey Transit. His expertise led him to the cellular industry as a Project Manager, building networks for Omnipoint and VoiceStream, and finally as Sr Safety Manager at T-Mobile. Doug concluded his professional journey as a Managing Consultant, focusing on radio communication systems for various government agencies.
Beyond his professional life, Douglas was deeply involved in volunteer work. He served as an EMT, volunteer Fireman, and Ham Radio Operator. He was an active member of several amateur radio clubs and emergency services, including St. Charles County Amateur Radio Club, Snoqualmie Emergency Communication and Support Team, and North Bend Amateur Radio Emergency Services. Douglas also volunteered for King County SAR, Camp Corey, and was a mentor at Two Rivers School. He cherished his time at the Snoqualmie Valley Railroad, where he assumed multiple roles including Conductor, Brakeman, Fireman, and Docent. In his later years, Douglas delighted in playing Santa Claus, a role he embraced with joy as children often approached him, curious if he was the real Santa Claus.
Doug loved his family and grandchildren, and all animals, but especially his dogs, which he admitted to hopelessly spoiling.
Douglas is survived by his wife Joan (JB) and his blended family including stepsons George, Andrew, and James Shaub; his children Daniel Dickinson, Dawn Trapp (Chance), and David Dickinson; stepdaughter Missy Coombs; grandchildren Liam, Nolan, Brogan, Gianna, Milo, and Alan; sister Susan Wilson, and brother David Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Rita Rose Dickinson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Regional Animal Services of King County (RASCK), or the Northwest Railroad Museum in Snoqualmie, Washington, honoring Douglas's love of animals and his passion for community service.

Tributes

"My condolences to the Dickinson Family. Doug was a gentle soul. He always showed kindness by imparting encouraging words, dropping what he was doing to help someone in need and showing how important the love of family is. He instilled those same qualities in Dan, David, Dawn and Missy. He will forever be remembered fondly."
