Mary Jane Jones, affectionately known as "MJ," passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on January 19, 1945, in La Junta, Colorado, to James Lafayette Jones and Jessie Fayne Musselman Jones, she spent her early years in Colorado before relocating to Washington in 1979, where she built a life centered on family, love, and service to others.
MJ possessed an extraordinary gift for finding beauty in life's smallest moments--a dewdrop on a flower petal, a child's laughter, a perfect sunset--and an even greater gift for sharing that beauty with everyone she met. Her infectious sense of humor and playful spirit were legendary among family and friends. She was a natural jokester who could turn an ordinary day into something memorable with her wit and warmth. Whether she was sharing a funny story, offering a kind word, or simply being present, MJ had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved.
Her generosity knew no bounds. MJ was the person neighbors called when they needed help, the friend who showed up without being asked, and the family member who gave her last dollar to ensure others had what they needed. She approached life with an open heart and open hands, believing deeply that we are here to care for one another. Her home and heart were always open, and she became a second mom to many who found in her the love, guidance, and acceptance they needed. To countless young people and friends of her children, she was simply "Mom"--a title she wore with pride and joy.
Above all, MJ was a devoted mother, cherished nana, and adored great-nana. Her children and grandchildren were not just her greatest pride--they were her greatest achievement, her purpose, and the joy of her life. She delighted in going to church, spending time with grandchildren, friends, and celebrating holidays. Every milestone they reached filled her heart with pride, and she made sure each one knew they were deeply loved and believed in.
Throughout her life, MJ worked tirelessly in various jobs, always driven by her unwavering commitment to provide for and support her family--the greatest love of her life. She taught her children and grandchildren the value of hard work, perseverance, and dedication through her example.
Towards the end of her journey, MJ began walking a deeply meaningful path alongside her daughter Stephanie, drawing closer to God. This spiritual journey brought her profound peace and comfort, and the bond she shared with Stephanie during this time was a source of great joy and strength for them both. It was a testament to MJ's open heart and her lifelong belief that it's never too late to seek deeper connection and meaning.
MJ is survived by her two children, William John Goldthwait and his wife Laura Andrea Goldthwait and Stephanie Dawn Kearney; three grandchildren,Jason Mathew MacSweeney, Liam John Goldthwait, and Isabella Joy Johnson; and one great-grandson, Jetidiah Raymond MacSweeney, who brought immeasurable joy to her final years. She is also survived by the countless "adopted" sons and daughters who knew her as a second mom and whose lives she touched with her unconditional love. [She was preceded in death by James Lafayette Jones and Jessie Fayne Musselman Jones.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Garden Grove Adult Family Home and Providence Hospital for their compassionate care during MJ's final days.
MJ's family invites all who knew and loved her to celebrate her remarkable life and the indelible mark she left on this world.

Full of Life and Love to give.
A caring heart a helping hand.
Lending a ear even when
there were tears.
Found the joy of a new
Baby boy!
Just in time to say Good-bye
She leaves behind a legacy
That?s divine.
Daughters and Sons
Grand and Great.
Filled her heart with
Light & Grace.
Her Dance and Song have
Come to an end ;
In time for the next one to begin. "
