Curtis Thomas Maroney, known to most of those who loved him as Curt, passed away on May 21, 2026, in Seattle, Washington, following a stroke. He was 56 years old.
Born on August 26, 1969, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Curt grew up with a deep love for music that would shape the course of his life. From an early age, he was drawn to the guitar, a passion that led him to pursue formal training at music school. Outside of school, his love of Rush, Prince, Foo Fighters and many others colored his path. Curt took his love for music and shared it with others throughout his life. Whether it was performing with multiple bands, writing and producing music with friends or teaching young students guitar, music was at the center of who he was.
Curt devoted much of his life to helping others, working in education and personal development. Through his commitment to making a difference with people and in the world, he impacted countless individuals, families, workplaces and communities. Although his life was cut short, his impact lives on in the hearts and lives of so many, some he didn't even know.
A diehard sports fan, Curt carried his Midwest roots with him throughout his life, including a lifelong love for Minnesota sports teams - yes, even Seattle teams at times. Curt was a loyal and trusted friend, who loved to spend time with his good buddies.
He will be remembered for his kind spirit, gentle nature, thoughtfulness and generosity. He was always willing to be of service or to lend a helping hand. Curt had a way of making people feel welcome and cared for, and his presence brought warmth to many lives.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Maroney, along with many friends, colleagues, and loved ones (too many to list) who will miss him deeply.
A memorial gathering will be planned, and an announcement will be made when details are available.
