Our Frank Angelo was born Frank Toto in Buffalo, NY, on 15 September, 1937. In the summer of '38 the family moved to Glendale, CA, where Frank grew up. The Totos were a part of the ethnic Italian catholic subculture.
Frank had a good childhood in Glendale. His folks loved him and his five older sisters. He was always affable and popular despite his almost unconcealable homosexuality. Soon after graduating high school he was hired into the aerospace industry as an illustrator. He always saved his money diligently and in the late 1970s he bought a derelict house in Toluca Lake. In 1980 he tore down the house and put up a six unit condominium at 10422 Riverside Drive. He promptly lost the whole thing in the stagflation of that time. Nonetheless, Frank was a survivor and continued building.
In May of 1977 Frank finally became openly gay. At exactly the same time he had his name legally changed from Frank Toto to Frank Toto Angelo. Frank lived in the Glendale-Burbank-Studio City area until 1994 when he moved to San Diego. In 2018 he moved to Seattle where he remained until his end.
For decades he enjoyed the companionship he found in social clubs for older gays. He was active in several such clubs in Los Angeles and San Diego. When he moved to Seattle in 2018 he brought broad experience which was useful for Seattle Prime Timers. Frank started our AM Coffee event.
Frank lived independently until shortly after his 88th birthday. About November, 2025 his good friend Paul Baenen needed to live continuously with him. Frank was coming downhill steadily and by February Paul could no longer provide adequate care. Frank moved into an Adult Family Home in April, 2026. His general health continued to deteriorate. On July 18, 2026, Paul arrived to visit him at 12:05. Paul and Frank were together alone. Frank's breathing was audible, though he didn't awaken. Suddenly and definitively his breathing stopped at 12:09pm.
